It started in 1971, when a few business owners and area residents decided to create this event in order to entice the tourists to stay a little bit longer or return to the beaches after Labor Day, which was the end of the summer season for the vacationers.
Little did they know that they were creating what was to evolve into one of South’s biggest annual attractions, inviting more than 250, 000 visitors every year.
Located directly in front of The Hangout at the end of Hwy. 59 in Gulf Shores, the streets, the beach air will be filled with music during the four days. Artists and Musicians will be performing throughout the day on the east and the west stages. Here is the lineup. http://myshrimpfest.com/music/2014-line-up/
Besides Gulf Shores being called paradise, the shrimp festival is also a hub for coastal beach food, especially those fresh, plump, juicy, pink gulf shrimps! The Cajun Pistol is something you would definitely have to try! 50 + local and regional vendors with delectable recipes line the fest, you cannot walk past this festival without tasting those mouth watering delights.
If you lean towards the fine arts or the arts and crafts, the festival has it all for you. This is one of the highlights. Local and regional artists show case their work and you will have the opportunity to know the story of each art work from the artist themselves giving your memento a personal narrative.
Music in the back ground, blue ocean in the foreground, the smell of fresh gulf shrimp, funnel cake and other award winning delicacies wafting in the air, artists from various backgrounds and culture adding to the festivities - this is our shrimp festival in a nutshell!
Come enjoy! Partake of this celebration in our beautiful coastal city. I hang out at the festival just because I love it. Join me!
The Shrimp festival this year is from October 9th – 12th 2014! It’s a free event but the memories you make will be price less!
